HVAC & Plumbing in Edina, MN

Edina is one of the towns where Tiger works the most, and most of those calls are for furnaces, air conditioners, and water heaters in older homes. We repair, replace, and maintain them, handle everyday plumbing, and answer emergency calls 24/7 from our Eden Prairie office.

Furnaces, AC, and water heaters

Edina grew from east to west and was largely built out by the early 1980s, so more than half of its homes date from the 1960s or earlier. Many have been remodeled or rebuilt since, but plenty still run older furnaces, air conditioners, and water heaters. That is where most of Tiger's Edina calls come from.

  • Furnace repair or replacement

When an older furnace stops heating, Tiger finds the cause first, then lays out the repair next to a replacement so you can weigh the cost against the condition of the rest of the system. Replacement estimates are free.

  • Air conditioning

An older central air system that struggles through a humid July may need a repair, a tune-up, or a new system. Tiger repairs, maintains, and replaces central air, and can price a heat pump when the furnace is due at the same time.

  • Water heaters

Gas and electric tank water heaters and tankless heaters, repaired or replaced. Edina's hard water leaves scale inside water heaters, so it makes sense to look at the softener when the water heater is replaced.

Replacing equipment in an older home

An older house can need a little more planning when the furnace, AC, or water heater changes. These three points are worth raising during a free replacement estimate.

  1. Venting

In many older homes a gas water heater shares a chimney with the furnace. A high-efficiency furnace vents out a side wall instead, which changes how that chimney works for the water heater left behind, so the venting belongs in the replacement plan.

  2. Size and ductwork

Ducts sized decades ago, plus additions and finished basements since, all affect what size furnace or air conditioner makes sense and how evenly it heats and cools the house.

  3. Permit and inspection

Edina requires a plumbing permit to install or replace a water heater or water softener, and a mechanical permit for heating and air conditioning equipment. Where a permit is required, Tiger obtains it and schedules the inspection.

Edina water

Hard water, except in Morningside

Edina pumps its water from 18 city wells, about 381 to 1,150 feet deep. Nine of them feed four treatment plants that take out iron and manganese, but the water still carries about 17 to 20 grains of hardness. The city's utility division recommends setting home softeners to leave 3 to 4 grains.

Morningside is the exception. Its water comes from Minneapolis, and the city says it does not need to be softened.

Tiger installs, repairs, and replaces residential water softeners. If a water heater is being replaced in a home with hard water, ask about the softener at the same visit.

No heat, no cooling, or water where it shouldn't be

Smell natural gas?

Leave immediately on foot. Do not use switches, phones, vehicles, or anything else that could create a spark. From a safe location, call 911 and CenterPoint Energy or your gas utility. Do not try to find or repair the leak yourself.
